The New England Patriots are going through big changes this offseason. After parting ways with Jerod Mayo and replacing him with Mike Vrabel, the Patriots are continuing to overhaul the coaching staff. The latest departure is a long-time assistant coach who has been with the team since 2017. Brian Belichick is reportedly moving on from the Patriots per ESPN's Mike Reiss.
Patriots News: Brian Belichick Departing from New England
Belichick first joined the Patriots front office as a scouting assistant. He then switched the the sidelines and joined his father Bill's staff as a coaching assistant. After three seasons in that role, Belichick became the safeties coach, a position that was held by Stephen Belichick previously.
Brian surprisingly stayed in New England on Mayo's staff after his father's departure. His next destination is currently unknown, but it wouldn't be a major surprise if he followed Bill to the University of North Carolina. Stephen Belichick was recently confirmed as the defensive coordinator at UNC, and the younger brother joining the staff there would be expected.
With Brian Belichick moving on, there aren't too many coaches remaining from Mayo's staff. Defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington, defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery, outside linebackers coach Drew Wilkins, and inside linebackers coach Dont'a Hightower moved on earlier in the offseason.
Special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer and special teams assistant coach Tom Quinn are the only two confirmed holdovers in Mike Vrabel's staff from last season. Who will take over as the safeties coach under new defensive coordinator Terrell Williams remains to be seen.
