Thursday's NBA trade deadline was a busy time for several teams but not the Boston Celtics. The defending NBA Champions took a more conservative approach at the deadline, opting to keep the status quo aside from getting rid of Jaden Springer in a much-needed salary dump.

It didn't take Boston long to use the newly vacant roster spot to sign veteran wing Torrey Craig for the remainder of the year.

Some Celtics fans were, understandably, disappointed by the quiet deadline — especially with how many blockbuster deals were going around the Asociation. Meanwhile, other supporters were fine with the lack of moves because, as the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

After the trade deadline passed, it didn't take Celtics general manager Brad Stevens long to open up about his moves (or lack thereof).

Celtics News: GM Brad Stevens Reacts to Trade Deadline

Always one to wear his heart on his sleeves, Stevens didn't hide that he wasn't bothered by the Celtics' uneventful trade deadline performance. If anything, the 2024 NBA Executive of the Year revealed that a "boring" deadline was always in the cards.

"In our situation with our team this year, today was boring as hell," Stevens told reporters on Thursday night, per The Athletic's Jay King. The 48-year-old GM even clarified that he's always had faith in the current roster.

"We just weren’t going to do anything major because at the end of the day... what gives us our best chance of having a chance to win?" Stevens added. "I’m encouraged by kind of where we’re headed with that and never really wavered in our belief in that."

Celtics fans began to lose faith in a championship repeat amid a disappointing January performance. Fortunately, a 4-1 run in the Celtics' last five games seemingly indicates that the slump is in the past while their 36-16 record — third-best in the league — shows that they still belong in the NBA Championship conversation.

The Celtics ended their 16-year title slump when they defeated the Dallas Mavericks in five games in the 2023-24 NBA Finals. The chances of a title repeat are quite promising as the Celtics head into the rest of the regular season as FanDuel Sportsbook's +195 championship favorite.
