The entire middle of the defense is going to look different with Vrabel in charge. He parted ways with many of the veteran defensive players from last year who had ties to Bill Belichick and the former coaching regime.
In doing so, Vrabel added Robert Spillane and Jack Gibbens to take over in the middle of the defense for his new and improved squad.

Cornerbacks (11)
Cornerback is another strong position for New England. They have All-Pro Christian Gonzalez and signed veteran Carlton Davis, who is the top man-to-man corner in the NFL. Marcus Jones will still be the nickelback slot corner heading into the season.

Safeties (10)
The Patriots have had solid play from Kyle Dugger, the longest-tenured player on the team, and Jabrill Peppers, who provides a strong veteran presence overlooking the defense.

Special Teams (3)
The special teams unit is in the process of being revamped this season after drafting kicker Andres Borregales, and long snapper Julian Ashton. They cut veteran Joe Cardona as well.
