Drew Peterson is a name many fans of the Boston Celtics might not know. The 6'9 forward has mostly played in Maine these past two years for the Celtics' G-League affiliate. Going into this next season, though, Peterson could find himself competing for a roster spot.

Since the season has ended, Peterson revealed in an interview with The Garden Report that he has been focused on adding weight to prepare for the physicality. We've seen during these playoffs how physical the games have gotten, and this is the next step for Peterson if he wants a chance at competing for a roster spot.

During this past season, Peterson appeared in 25 games with Boston, even being a starter in one of them. He shot 41.5% from the field and 39% from three. In his 15 games with the Maine Celtics, he averaged 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists, shooting 44% from the field and 40% from three. Peterson played in all three of Maine's playoff games and averaged 17.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists, shooting 44% from the field and 39% from downtown.

How Does Drew Peterson Factor Next Season?

As things currently stand, Peterson is a free agent, though I don't expect him to leave Boston. The part that we have to wait and see is if he is brought back on another 2-way contract or if he makes the active roster. No matter the contract, I'd expect Peterson to see some time in the Summer League, even if it's brief.

Given Peterson's playing time this recent season, the Celtics believe he can develop into a rotation player. He will be up against other younger players such as Jordan Walsh and Baylor Scheierman for a spot in the rotation next season. This is before factoring in any rookies the Celtics could draft. Going into next season, Peterson should be a player fans keep an eye on.
