The 2026-27 NBA season is officially here, and the Boston Celtics will kick off their campaign on Tuesday on the road against the Detroit Pistons.
Boston and Detroit finished last season as the No. 2 and No. 1 seeds in the East, respectively, though both teams were eliminated in the playoffs before the conference finals. The Pistons won three of their four matchups against the Celtics last season, and they have won four of their last five matchups. It was the first time they won the season series since winning two of their three matchups during the 2020-21 season.
Here is the full injury report for the Celtics and Pistons ahead of their season opener.
10/20 Celtics injury report vs. Pistons
- Devin Carter (illness) - OUT
Devin Carter is the only player listed on the Celtics' injury report, as he is sidelined with mononucleosis. Carter missed each of Boston's last three preseason games, and he may be out of action for multiple weeks.
The Celtics signed the Providence alum to their final two-way roster spot just a few days ago, but when he ultimately returns, there are reasons to think he could carve out a legitimate role in the rotation as a backup point guard.
During his lone preseason appearance against the Cleveland Cavaliers this year, Carter recorded 17 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals while shooting 5-for-9 (55.6%) from the field and 1-for-3 (33.3%) from deep. He also played incredible defense and showcased his ability to get to the basket.
10/20 Pistons injury report vs. Celtics
- Elijah Harkless (two-way) - OUT
- Isaac Jones (two-way) - OUT
- Ugonna Onyenso (two-way) - OUT
- Taurean Prince (personal) - OUT
The Pistons have ruled out Elijah Harkless, Isaac Jones, and Ugonna Onyenso, who are all on two-way contracts, against the Celtics.
They have also ruled out Taurean Prince due to personal reasons. The Pistons acquired Prince from the Milwaukee Bucks in the offseason as part of the six-team trade that sent Isaiah Stewart to the Memphis Grizzlies. Detroit also landed John Collins from the Los Angeles Clippers in the deal.
In 26 games for the Bucks last season (he missed most of the season after suffering a herniated disk in his neck that required surgery before coming back for the final month of action), the Texas native averaged 9.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists on 45/43.6/100% shooting splits.
