The Boston Celtics continue to build momentum ahead of the 2025 NBA Playoffs, notching a lopsided 124-90 win over the Washington Wizards on Sunday. The blowout effort improved the Celtics' record to 58-20, putting them four games behind the Eastern Conference-leading Cleveland Cavaliers with as many contests left on the schedule.
With the playoffs looming and the Wizards being one of the NBA's weaker teams, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla didn't need to rely heavily on his top players for the win. That meant Jaylen Brown only played 22 minutes of action, keeping the Boston star feeling fresh ahead of the postseason.
The diminished playing time allowed Brown to participate in a popular sports tradition with Celtics fans, drawing some hilarious criticism from a teammate along the way.
Celtics News: Derrick White Roasts Jaylen Brown for T-Shirt Toss
The t-shirt toss is a tradition across most North American sports, and events at TD Garden aren't an exception. With extra free time on his hands, Brown participated in the tradition on Sunday as he threw t-shirts toward hopeful fans from Boston's bench.
Not all of Brown's throws were perfect, though, drawing hilarious criticism from one of his teammates.
"I was a little disappointed," Derrick White said when asked about Brown's throwing arm (h/t @CelticsCLNS). "He didn't have a smart way of doing it. He was throwing it and then the spin was knocking it down. He needed to throw a spiral. I gotta help him out."

While Brown is one of basketball's top players today, White clearly doesn't think his teammate has the arm talent to quarterback the New England Patriots. Fortunately, the Celtics' 28-year-old star won't be throwing t-shirts that often, nor does he have to use similar motions during NBA games.
Having said that, Sunday's roast isn't the first time the Boston duo has poked fun at each other. Brown didn't hesitate to call White ugly when the latter chipped his tooth during Game 5 of the 2024 NBA Finals, making for one of the funniest moments of last year's postseason.
Building chemistry is important when it comes to success in sports, and the Brown-White friendship is an example of the Celtics doing all the right things. The fact that Boston is also one of the NBA's top teams and the defending champions likely makes it easier to joke about t-shirt tosses, whereas playoff bubble teams aren't afforded the same luxury due to pressure.
Hopefully, Brown and White can keep the good vibes coming to help the Celtics chase the second of back-to-back titles. It's been nearly a decade since the Golden State Warriors won consecutive NBA championships, leaving time to tell if Boston's star-studded roster is good enough to end that drought.
Fortunately, all signs point to the C's being competitive throughout spring. The Celtics currently hold the second-best 2025 NBA Finals odds (+185) on FanDuel Sportsbook as they head into the regular season's final week.
