Concerning Report on Patriots' Toxic Locker Room Emerges Amid Struggles

There are bigger issues plaguing the New England Patriots than lack of talent.

The New England Patriots lost six straight to fall to 1-6 for the season. Even though the fans had minimal expectations from the season, things have gotten even worse than that for the Patriots.

A day doesn't go by without a negative report or drama about the Patriots. One day it's Jerod Mayo calling his team "soft", and the next day it is Bill Belichick criticizing Mayo. On Thursday, an even more damning report came to light. Patriots insider Doug Kyed reported that some team sources believe that there is a lack of leadership, including among the players and the coaches.

The Patriots already have a young and inexperienced team. There is a clear lack of elite talent, especially after the absences of key veterans like Jabrill Peppers, Christian Barmore, Ja'Whaun Bentley, and David Andrews.

When you already lack high-end talent, you need to have chemistry and togetherness to be more than the sum of your parts. And that starts with the coaching staff.

Unfortunately for the Patriots, the coaching staff has shown a real lack of leadership. MassLive's Mark Daniels gave a perfect example of what has been plaguing the team. He reported that offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt revealed details of the team meeting on Thursday.

In the team meeting, the coaching staff told the players to "be better off the field", "work harder", and "rehab harder".

Feud Between Patriots Coaches and Players Escalates Again on Thursday

This is what the coaches have been doing all season: putting the blame and the burden on the players. It is the coaching staff's job to make sure the players are working hard and preparing right.

The Patriots certainly have plenty of weaknesses and their roster is far from good. At the same time, the coaches are doing a poor job creating the right environment for development.
