Dolphins Gift Patriots Perfect Jonathan Jones Replacement
By Cem Yolbulan

The New England Patriots have more cap space than they know what to do with entering the offseason. Mike Vrabel will have carte blanche on building the roster he desires.
At the same time, the Patriots need to make tough decisions. In order to take the next step in Vrabel's first season, the Patriots need to move on from aging veterans. One of those players is long-time Patriot Jonathan Jones. The 31-year-old cornerback is hitting free agency after having one of his worst seasons in New England, receiving a 60.7 defensive grade per PFF and not recording an interception for the second straight season.
Fortunately for the Patriots, they have an opportunity to sign a cheaper and better replacement, thanks to the Miami Dolphins.
Fuller was pretty solid last season. Good swing at CB3 for a team with snaps to up for grabs. https://t.co/M1ht2kfdPf

Kendall Fuller is an Intriguing Free Agent Option for the Patriots
The Dolphins are in a dire financial situation as they try to be cap-compliant by the start of the new league year. Therefore, they released RB Raheem Mostert, TE Durham Smythe, and CB Kendall Fuller on Friday. They will have to trim at least $5.4 million more before March 12.
Fuller is an intriguing option for the Patriots. A Super Bowl winner from his time with the Chiefs, Fuller is still playing at a high level. The 30-year-old defender finished the season on injured reserve but in the 11 games he suited up for, he received a 66.2 defensive grade on PFF. He allowed a 62.8% completion rate and a 92.8 passer rating when targeted.
Even if the Patriots decide to keep Jones around, adding a competent veteran like Fuller should only help the defense. At this stage of his career, Jones is likely better suited in a CB3 role, and Fuller can slot in opposite Christian Gonzalez, at least as a short-term option. Whether the Patriots go this route or opt for a younger option with a higher upside remains to be seen.
