Drake Maye Pops Up on Patriots' Injury Report After Week 6 Start
By Jovan Alford
New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye made his first NFL start last week against the Houston Texans. Maye didn’t play badly against the Texans but still showed those rookie mistakes.
The 22-year-old quarterback completed 60.6 percent of his passes (20-of-33) for 243 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also had 38 rushing yards and was sacked four times.
Maye will try to build off his NFL start this weekend against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London who are coming off a disappointing loss to another rookie quarterback – Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears.
However, the Pats had the rookie quarterback make a notable appearance on the injury ahead of Sunday’s matchup.
According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Maye was among the four players listed as full participants at practice on Wednesday. The rookie quarterback was listed with a knee injury.
That said, the good news for the Pats is that Maye participated in practice and hopefully it stays that way for the rest of the week. New England’s passing game showed signs of life, which they didn’t do with Jacoby Brissett under center.
DeMario Douglas and Kayshon Boutte had huge performances with Maye last week and will face a horrible Jaguars’ pass defense on Sunday. Jacksonville allows the most passing yards per game (276.7) and has given up eight touchdowns to opposing wide receivers.
Based on those stats and Maye popping up on the injury report, the Patriots are 5.5-point underdogs against the Jags on DraftKings Sportsbook.
