Ex-Patriots QB Lands With AFC Bottomfeeder Ahead of Week 8
The New England Patriots have their own long list of struggles that are going down. They are 1-6 and have dropped six games in a row. New England needs to find a solution to their problems but while they do that, a former player found a job elsewhere.
On Tuesday morning, quarterback Bailey Zappe was signed off the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad by the Cleveland Browns.
NFL News: Bailey Zappe is Signing with the Cleveland Browns
According to Tom Pelissero, the 25-year-old could have a chance to backup quarterback Jameis Winston in Cleveland on Sunday. Deshaun Watson tore his Achilles last week and is going to miss the rest of the season. Dorian Thompson-Robinson also hurt his finger when he came in as relief, leading to Cleveland adding Zappe.
The Western Kentucky product fell down the depth chart this summer with the Pats. At one point, he was taking reps behind Drake Maye, Jacoby Brissett, and Joe Milton. He was released by the team in August and landed on the Chiefs practice squad.
After staying there all of 2024, Zappe could have a chance to see some real game action. Over 14 career games in New England, Zappe had 2,053 passing yards, 11 passing touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
His time ended up running out there, but joining a bottom feeder in the AFC isn't the best landing spot. The Browns are 32nd in the league in total offense (253.9) and 29th in scoring offense (15.6). This offense has been lackluster and Zappe is hoping he gets a chance to provide a much-needed spark.
