The New England Patriots are one of a handful of NFL teams to have already begun OTAs, as it's the time of year in which teams try to identify players who could theoretically compete for a 53-man roster spot this fall.
There have been some clear winners early on, yet a few veterans are finding themselves on the chopping block. That's true around the league as well, and one New England divisional rival who hasn't yet started OTAs just cut a former Patriot.
This isn't a move that'll have a major impact, though he spent a year on New England's practice squad and is only 28 years old.
Dolphins Cut Former Patriots LB William Bradley-King Just Before OTAs
As announced by the Miami Dolphins' official X account, they've released linebacker William Bradley-King. Originally a seventh-round pick out of Baylor in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders, Bradley-King joined the Patriots' practice squad in October of 2023. He was with the organization for roughly a calendar year, getting released in August of 2024 with training camp cuts.
The Kansas City, MO, native appeared in four games with the Commanders, notching just seven total tackles in a limited role. He hasn't played since 2022, only serving as a depth piece since then.
This move doesn't mean much for either organization. Bradley-King is now hoping to salvage his career, having been shown the door by two different AFC teams in a matter of years. The Dolphins have consistently been ahead of the Patriots in recent years, though the trajectory of these two franchises are clearly going in opposite directions.
New England is building an identity under new head coach Mike Vrabel, hoping to utilize Drake Maye's exciting skill set to return the franchise to glory. Miami, on the other hand, is stuck with an overpaid quarterback and aging roster, seemingly having already missed its window.
For Bradley-King's sake, he's hoping he's able to land on his feet and impress a coaching staff this summer, though it appears improbable that the Patriots would be interested.
