As we enter the second half of the NFL season, teams are naturally having to make some changes based on performance and injuries. This will be a common occurrence for teams who have fallen out of the playoff race as they begin to have a more future-focused outlook.

One of those teams is the Jacksonville Jaguars. After a disappointing 2-7 start to the season, the Jags received further bad news when it was revealed that QB Trevor Lawrence suffered a shoulder injury. It has been reported that he may require surgery that could rule him out for the rest of the season.

While NFL insider Ian Rapoport didn't confirm those reports, he said that Lawrence is unlikely to play in Week 10. This provides an excellent opportunity for former Patriots quarterback Mac Jones who will get the start against the Vikings on Sunday.

NFL News: QB Mac Jones Likely Starting in Week 10 for the Jaguars

While Jones already played in two games for Jacksonville, coming in for Lawrence in blowout losses, this will be his first NFL start out of a Patriots uniform. He will look to re-establish his career and potentially prove himself as a starting-caliber quarterback for next season.

After three seasons in New England, the former first-round pick was traded to the Jaguars for a sixth-round pick in the 2024 offseason. Despite trading for him, Jacksonville declined his fifth-year option, making him a free agent after this season.

This puts more pressure on Jones to perform well in Lawrence's absence. If he can find the groove that he had in his rookie campaign when he had a 92.5 passer rating, a 22:13 TD:INT ratio, and a 10-7 record on his way to earning Pro Bowl honors, Jones can still be a valuable signal-caller. Even though the previous two seasons significantly reduced the probability of that happening, the Jaguars have no choice but to hope.
