The New England Patriots appear to have their running back of the future in place after selecting former Ohio State Buckeyes standout TreVeyon Henderson with the No. 38 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

While Henderson has already provided Patriots fans with reasons to be excited about what he will bring to New England's roster, one of his predecessors has officially moved on to a new home in the AFC.

After spending his first three seasons with the Patriots, former sixth-round pick Kevin Harris has found his next stop in the NFL, as the running back has signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Ex-Patriots RB Kevin Harris Signs with Jaguars Before Preseason Finale

Former South Carolina Gamecocks running back Kevin Harris spent the first three seasons of his professional career as a member of the Patriots, but was limited to just nine total games played, including one start, where he recorded 175 total yards and two touchdowns on 37 touches.

Now, Harris will look to build a name for himself in North Florida as the Jacksonville Jaguars announced the former Gamecocks star had agreed to a contract to join the franchise ahead of Jacksonville's final preseason matchup.

While Harris may have found a new NFL home, keeping his job there will not be easy with players like Travis Etienne Jr. and Tank Bigsby sitting atop the depth chart. There are also a pair of 2025 draft picks on Jacksonville's roster in Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen Jr. If Harris has any intentions of making this final roster out of camp, it would benefit him greatly to have a productive week of practice and a standout showing in the team's preseason finale.

Ultimately, the partnership between Harris and the Patriots was short-lived due to more than just a lack of production. Whenever a regime change is made, that staff tends to trim the fat off the roster they inherited, and that could have contributed to the decision not to retain Harris after he spent the 2024 season on the practice squad.

Despite having a breakout season during his sophomore year in the SEC, Harris was never able to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark beyond the 2020 campaign when he rushed for 1,138 yards and 16 total touchdowns over just 10 games. While other things contributed to the downturn in production during his final season in Columbia, a back injury limited what Harris was able to accomplish to close out his collegiate career.

New England and Jacksonville don't meet during the 2025 campaign, so there will be no chance at redemption for Harris this coming season, unless the two ultimately meet in the playoffs.
