The New England Patriots have been one of the most active teams in free agency, giving out lucrative long-term deals after entering the offseason with the most cap space of anyone in the NFL. So far, their most important signings came on the defensive side of the ball with Milton Williams, Harold Landry, Robert Spillane, and Carlton Davis. The veteran signings have caught the attention of a ton of football fans, including one former Patriots star.

Stephon Gilmore, who spent the best seasons of his pro career in New England, shared his excitement about the Patriots' new cornerback duo. Responding to the official team account's social media post of Carlton Davis and Christian Gonzalez together, Gilmore said "this tough" with fire emojis.

Stephon Gilmore Excited About the Patriots' Cornerback Duo

After signing Davis to a three-year, $54 million deal, the Patriots have one of the best cornerback duos in the league. Davis spent last season with the Lions after playing for Tampa Bay for the first six seasons of his career and winning a Super Bowl with Tom Brady. He ranked as the 21st-best cornerback in the league per PFF, while Gonzalez graded as the 13th in his second year in the league.

Gilmore certainly knows a thing or two about cornerbacks. Since being a first-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, he has been one of the best defensive backs in the league. His best season came in 2019 in New England when he won the Defensive Player of the Year award and led the league in interceptions.

After playing for his fourth team in four seasons last year, Gilmore is a free agent once again. Patriots fans would love to have a competent veteran and an excellent locker-room leader like Gilmore as CB3 next season. Where he will play in 2025 after a strong campaign with the Vikings last season remains to be seen.
