Former Boston Red Sox infielder Bobby Dalbec was looking for a fresh start this winter after spending the last four years with the Sox.

Dalbec began his major league career with a lot of promise, hitting .263 with eight home runs and 16 RBI in 2020 (23 games) and .240 with 25 home runs and 78 RBI in 2021.

However, Dalbec could not re-capture that magic over the last three years, hitting .198 with 14 home runs and 48 RBI. That said, the former fourth-round pick took his talents to the Windy City, signing a one-year, $1.25 million minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox.

The former Red Sox infielder played okay in Spring Training, slashing .250/.294/.313 with two doubles and three RBI in 16 games. But that wasn’t enough for Dalbec to make the big league club, as he was reassigned to minor league camp on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old slugger will likely begin the 2025 season down at Triple-A Charlotte, which is the minor league affiliate of the White Sox.

Last year, Dalbec played mostly at Triple-A Worcester (Red Sox minor league affiliate). He hit .252 with 20 home runs and 68 RBI in 97 games.

When he played with the Red Sox, the veteran couldn’t take advantage of the opportunity, slugging a mediocre .133 at the plate with one home run and eight RBI (37 games). Now, he’ll get another chance to prove that he’s not just a minor-league player but can be a contributor at the major-league level.

The White Sox are considered one of the worst teams in the majors this season, so it would not be surprising if Dalbec gets called up in the near future. Even though he’s struggled at the big league level with the Red Sox, Dalbec has a chance to change the narrative about his career within the White Sox organization.
