Throughout the 162-game regular season, also known as a marathon, players will come and go at various points.
This season, we’ve seen the Boston Red Sox make multiple changes at the major and minor league levels. We’ve also seen former Red Sox players be signed, optioned back to the minors, or designated for assignment.
For most players, when they get DFA’d, it's usually because of a poor performance at the plate or on the mound. However, when said players get DFA’d, it's not the end-all be-all. Most of the time, they usually find a new opportunity, not at the big league level.
Former Red Sox relief pitcher Noah Davis hopes that will be the case for him after a disastrous showing with his most recent team.
Ex-Red Sox Pitcher Noah Davis Gets Sent Away by Los Angeles Dodgers
On Friday, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced that they had designated the former Red Sox for assignment.
The Dodgers claimed RHP Nick Nastrini off waivers and designated RHP Noah Davis.

The right-handed pitcher was traded at the start of the season by the Red Sox to the Dodgers in exchange for cash considerations. Davis never made a regular-season appearance with the Sox as they signed him to a minor-league deal in the offseason.
The 28-year-old Davis made three relief appearances in April with the Dodgers before being sent back down to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
In 21 appearances (two starts) at Triple-A, Davis had a 3-0 record and 3.94 ERA. He allowed 24 hits, 16 runs (14 earned runs), 15 walks, and two home runs, while piling up 38 strikeouts over 32 innings.
The former Red Sox pitcher has held his own in Triple-A, but when he got called back up to the majors, things went south. In his last major league appearance with the Dodgers on July 4, the veteran pitcher got lit up by the Houston Astros.
The ex-Red Sox hurler allowed six hits, 10 earned runs, three walks, two home runs, and only recorded three strikeouts in 1.1 innings as the Dodgers lost 18-1. That appearance destroyed his ERA, which went from 5.79 on Jun. 1 to 19.50.
Despite getting lit up in his last appearance with the Dodgers, Davis will likely find another opportunity as teams are always looking for pitching at the major and minor league levels. The ex-Red Sox pitcher just needs to make sure he’s ready if he gets called back up to the big leagues.
