The Boston Red Sox could be one of the more active teams in the Majors as we get closer to the trade deadline in the coming weeks.
The Red Sox are currently sitting 2.5 games out of the wild card spot in the American League, which means they could be buyers or sellers depending on how things shake out over the next few weeks. Regardless of which route they take, fans should expect this roster to look different by the time the calendar flips to August.
Meanwhile, many former Red Sox players are trying to find their next opportunity in the coming days before the All-Star break. One former Boston relief pitcher has been reacquired by a team that kicked him to the curb a couple of days ago.
Ex-Red Sox Reliever Yohan Ramirez Re-Joins Pittsburgh Pirates After Release
On Sunday, former Red Sox reliever Yohan Ramirez re-signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates on a new minor league contract, per his MLB.com profile page. The 30-year-old bullpen arm was sent to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Kevin Gorman of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported on Friday that the Pirates parted ways with the former Red Sox hurler, who also had a release clause in his deal.
From the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians: RHP Yohan Ramírez was granted his release by the Pirates per release clause. RHP Peter Strzelecki also was released earlier this week.

Ramirez hasn’t played a game with the Pirates this season, as he’s spent most of his time in Triple-A. He has thrown the ball well at Triple-A, posting a 3.30 ERA across 26 appearances.
Before joining the Pirates in the offseason, Ramirez spent part of the 2024 season with the Red Sox.
Boston claimed the 30-year-old reliever off waivers late last July from the Los Angeles Dodgers, who designated him for assignment. Ramirez spent most of his time in the minors at Triple-A Worcester. He posted a 1-1 record and a 2.18 ERA in 15 relief appearances.
Ramirez made one appearance with the big club but got lit up, giving up three hits, two earned runs, had two hits by pitches, and only landed a strikeout in 1.1 innings pitched. Boston released Ramirez in October, which led to him signing with the Pirates.
