It's been a hectic start to the week for Boston Red Sox fans, to say the least. The out-of-left-field Rafael Devers blockbuster trade not only rattled the Red Sox fanbase but Major League Baseball as a whole. Fans are still soaking in the fallout a few days later, making it clear that the unexpected deal won't be forgotten anytime soon.

With the Red Sox faithful needing a temporary distraction from Sunday's trade, some fans are taking time to check in on former Boston players. Some ex-Red Sox are currently having successful MLB seasons with their respective clubs, while one just got kicked to the curb by one of the American League's worst teams.

Former Red Sox Prospect Shaun Anderson DFA'd by Angels

On Friday, former Red Sox pitching prospect Shaun Anderson was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels, per CBS Sports. Less than 24 hours later, he cleared waivers and elected free agency, putting him on a path to find his next playing spot.

Anderson has struggled since joining the Angels on a minor-league deal this winter. The 30-year-old righty went 1-0 with a 7.59 ERA in six relief appearances, with the final straw coming when he gave up two earned runs in 2/3 innings in a 7-4 win over the Athletics on June 9. The Coral Springs, FL native is also 1-5 with a 7.23 ERA in nine games (8 starts) with Triple-A Salt Lake.

Anderson's MLB journey began as a third-round pick by the Red Sox in 2016. He only made appearances with Single-A Greenville and High-A Salem before being traded alongside Gregory Santos to the San Francisco Giants in the deal that sent infielder Eduardo Nunez to Boston in July 2017.

Since leaving the Red Sox, Anderson has made 75 appearances (18 starts) with eight MLB clubs, struggling to find a permanent spot to come home. Now, he's forced to look for a ninth team to join, leaving time to tell if the ex-Red Sox prospect can get his career back on track before it's too late.
