At this point in the MLB regular season, most teams' rosters are set in stone after the trade deadline. Now, the push towards the playoffs begins, which will be interesting to watch in both the American and National Leagues.

The Boston Red Sox are one of those teams fighting for a playoff spot. And believe that the moves they made will help them clinch a berth in a tough and competitive AL.

Meanwhile, several former Red Sox players and prospects across the sport are looking for their next opportunity. As things start to wind down and we get closer to September, the opportunities begin to dwindle.

With that in mind, one former Red Sox infielder has decided to sign a minor league contract with an AL team, despite receiving offers from international teams.

Ex-Red Sox Infielder Bobby Dalbec Signs with Kansas City Royals

On Friday, the Kansas City Royals announced that they signed former Red Sox infielder Bobby Dalbec to a minor league deal. However, before inking his contract with Kansas City, Francys Romero reported that the ex-Red Sox slugger had offers from KBO teams, but chose to remain in the MLB system.

The 30-year-old Dalbec reportedly opted out of his minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers last week. The Brewers signed Dalbec in May after the Chicago White Sox parted ways.

After not playing in his short major league stint this season with the White Sox (.222), Dalbec took his talents back to the minor leagues at Triple-A Nashville (Brewers’ affiliate). In 61 games, he slashed .266/.356/.498 with 12 home runs and 44 RBI.

Based on how Dalbec was hitting the ball at Triple-A Nashville, it's shocking to see him try to play elsewhere for potentially another team’s minor league affiliate, unless he believes he has a path to see the field in Kansas City.

However, as we said, the veteran’s most recent appearances in the majors have left much to be desired. In his last year with the Red Sox, Dalbec hit a mediocre .133 with one home run and eight RBI across 37 games.

For his career, Dalbec is a .222 hitter at the major league level, showing why he hasn’t returned to the show. However, if Dalbec can continue to hit in the Royals’ minor league system, maybe he might turn it around.
