The New England Patriots are 1-4 on the season. After picking up a win in Week 1 over the Cincinnati Bengals, the Pats have hit a wall. They've dropped four games in a row and the offense hasn't been effective.

They are ranked 31st in the league in total offense (250.8) and scoring offense (12.4) but last in passing offense (119.4).

That led to New England benching Jacoby Brissett in favor of rookie Drake Maye. With the North Carolina product taking the field, Brissett didn't sound thrilled in his public comments since the announcement.

Patriots News: Jacoby Brissett Isn’t Happy That He’s Benched

When speaking to reporters on Thursday, Brissett expressed he wasn't happy to head to the bench.

"I don't think words can really describe how tough it is."

Although no one wants to lose their job, Brissett had to expect this was coming. Back in March, he signed a one-year, $8 million deal to be the stopgap at quarterback. When Maye was selected with the third overall pick during April's draft, he was brought in to be the guy for the future.

The Pats gave Brissett the chance to hold down the starting job but he failed to do anything with it. After five games, the NC State product was ranked 27th in the NFL in passing yards (696), 28th in QBR (38.9), and tied for 32nd in passing touchdowns (2).

In addition to that, he isn't athletic enough to extend plays behind this putrid offensive line. That's why the Pats made the move to Maye.

It's a tough pill to swallow but it was the right call for New England, despite Brissett's feelings about the situation.
