Jayson Tatum Reveals Thoughts on Celtics' Rumored Trade Target
By Cem Yolbulan
The NBA trade deadline is in full swing. Over the weekend, the blockbuster trade of Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis shook the basketball world. Followed by the De'Aaron Fox to Sacramento deal, the NBA continues to give its fans plenty of intrigue and drama.
This will continue until the February 6 trade deadline. While the Boston Celtics aren't expected to make any significant moves at the deadline, GM Brad Stevens is obviously not leaving any stone unturned. One of the players who has been rumored to be a Celtics target is Guerschon Yabusele. The former Celtics draft pick has returned to the NBA and has been thriving in Philadelphia this season.
His emergence has caught the eye of his former teammate Jayson Tatum. After Boston's win over the Sixers on Sunday night, Tatum had nothing but positive remarks for Yabusele.
Jayson Tatum Speaks Highly of Potential Celtics Target Guerschon Yabusele
Even though Yabusele was drafted a year before Tatum, the two were rookies together in the 2017-18 season. The French big man's tenure in Boston didn't last very long, as he signed an overseas contract in China after two seasons in the NBA. After his breakout performance in the Euroleague and the Olympics over the last few years, Yabusele returned to the NBA, and Tatum has noticed differences in the 29-year-old.
"He looks like he’s in great shape, he looks like he’s lost some weight. And he’s getting an opportunity to play and he’s playing aggressive with confidence. So I’m happy that he’s back in the league and thriving."
- Jayson Tatum
Due to their financial situation, the Celtics are limited in what they can do at the deadline. They can only take back less in salary than they send out. That is why Yabusele, with his $2.1 million salary for this season, is such an intriguing option for Boston.
Considering how the Sixers have fallen out of title contention this season, they should be willing to entertain offers for Yabusele in exchange for draft capital.
