The New England Patriots made a big change ahead of their Week 6 clash against the Houston Texans and benched Jacoby Brissett in favor of Drake Maye. Despite the Texans' great defense, head coach Jerod Mayo made the brave decision to trust his prized rookie and throw him out there.

However, the process didn't go the way he had planned. According to Patriots insider Doug Kyed, the decision to start Maye on Sunday was leaked to the press before Mayo could speak to the team. In his press conference on Wednesday, the Patriots head coach disclosed his disappointment about the situation.

NFL News: Jerod Mayo Upset About Drake Maye Reveal

Mayo is a first-time head coach and hasn't even been a coordinator before. As a very young head coach with limited experience, he is bound to make mistakes like this.

At the same time, this is clearly a problem. No starter should find out that they are benched from social media. The team needs to hear the decisions and reasoning behind them from the coaching staff first.

Mayo and the coaches will certainly be more careful from now on. For what it's worth, everyone in the locker room and within the organization has been saying the right things about the situation.

Even though Mayo wasn't the one to reveal the big decision, the team likely saw it coming. The Patriots offense has been in shambles all season. The offensive line and the wide receiver corps haven't been particularly inspiring but Brissett put a ceiling on what this unit could be.

It was inevitable that Maye would eventually take over and everyone including Brissett knew it, so there is no need to be too upset about this as we look ahead to Week 6.
