Jerod Mayo Comments on Possible Patriots Coaching Changes After 1-4 Start
By Jovan Alford
The New England Patriots have dropped their last four games after starting the 2024 season with a Week 1 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Patriots’ offense has been one of the main issues this season as the offensive line has struggled to protect starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Brissett has been sacked 17 times while completing 58.5 percent of his passes for 696 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.
New England has one of the worst offenses in the league as they are ranked 32nd in passing (119.4 yards per game), eighth in rushing (131.4 yards per game), and 31st in scoring (12.4 points per game).
With this year’s Patriots offense looking eerily similar to last year’s team, the fanbase isn’t happy with new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.
Patriots News: Jerod Mayo Not Making a Change at Offensive Coordinator
When speaking with reporters on Monday, Pats head coach Jerod Mayo said that they won’t consider making an in-season change at offensive playmaker, per Mark Daniels of MassLive.com.
It’s not shocking to see Mayo holding firm with Van Pelt as the offensive coordinator as it’s hard to grade their unit when the starting quarterback can stay upright. Brissett has been consistently under pressure, which has led to a poor passing offense.
The Patriots have weapons but Van Pelt can’t go out and play offensive line, while also calling the plays. Nonetheless, Van Pelt and the offense will try to bounce back in Week 6 against the Houston Texans’ defense, who have allowed 22.8 points per game this season.
