The New England Patriots are 2-7 on the season and have a road game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

This is the second straight road contest for the Patriots and head coach Jerod Mayo spoke with team reporters on Friday. He was asked about Kyle Dugger's availability and gave a bleak update regarding the starting safety.

Patriots News: Kyle Dugger Still Dealing With Ankle Injury

Mayo added that Dugger will be back at some point this season but he's still dealing with an ankle injury. Although Mayo said he'll be back this season, he didn't provide a timeline.

Dugger has been dealing with an ankle injury since Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. That's forced him to miss the following two games and is expected to miss the game against the Bears.

The 28-year-old hasn't participated in practice at all this week and he'll likely be on the sideline once again. Since joining New England in 2020, the second-round pick has a consistent contributor in the secondary.

This season, he has 35 total tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and two pass deflections. The Pats could use his ability and leadership on the field but they'll have to chug through.

He's going to be a part of this team's future, after inking a four-year extension with a base value of $58 million that could raise up to $66 million this past offseason. Even though the Pats are rebuilding, once he's healthy enough, Dugger will return to the field. We'll just have to wait and see when that is.
