Jerod Mayo's Wife Goes Off on Patriots With Social Media Post
New England Patriots fans have had nearly one week to soak in former head coach Jerod Mayo's dismissal. The Kraft Family had seen enough of the first-year coach following a putrid 4-13 performance in 2024, leaving time to tell who'll take the mantle as the franchise's 16th head coach.
Although some Patriots supporters don't mind seeing Mayo go, others aren't happy about his firing. Unsurprisingly, that includes the 38-year-old's wife, Chantel, who voiced her displeasure regarding the situation in a social media post on Friday.
Patriots News: Jerod Mayo's Wife Blasts Franchise
Any sports fan knows that an athlete's partner is often the first one to come to their defense. That's exactly what happened with Chantel, who seemingly accused the Patriots of lying and lacking class.
"It never even crossed our minds to tell the truth," she said on Instagram (h/t @ByMarkDaniels). "But I couldn't even fathom all the lies we've read that are being told to save face. What happened to class?"
In a second Instagram story, the disgruntled wife hinted that the "real" truth could be on the horizon if the alleged lies don't stop spreading.
"We've been taking the high road and letting everyone do their thing since Sunday," Chantel added. "Playing with someone's name won't be tolerated. I bet the fake stories will stop before the real ones start..."
Even though Mayo's wife doesn't directly refer to a certain story, it isn't hard to figure out what she might be referring to.
On Wednesday, The Athletic's Chad Graff shed some behind-the-scenes light on things that apparently went wrong during Mayo's tenure. One of Graff's examples is that Mayo allegedly participated in a card game with players on the plane following a "hard-fought loss," implying that he didn't take his job seriously.
Graff also added that Mayo "had to lean on" Patriots management for a lot of help due to his "lack of connections." Even if it wasn't the writer's intent, he made it sound like the former linebacker-turned-coach had no clue what he was doing.
Putting everything together, it looks like Chantel is implying that the Patriots either fed lies to Graff or that The Athletic's reporter didn't do his proper due diligence. Either way, it looks like this issue won't be over as long as reports about Mayo's time in New England continue to emerge.
As Chantel Mayo continues to go on the attack against the franchise, Patriots fans are patiently awaiting to see who the next head coach will be.
