Since the end of the season, there have been numerous changes to the New England Patriots. The biggest change was hiring Mike Vrabel as head coach, moving on from Jerod Mayo after one season. When he came in, he cleaned the house.
From the coaching staff to the players, Vrabel moved on from anyone who was a part of the Patriots dynasty and brought in familiar faces of his own. One of those faces was quarterback Joshua Dobbs.
Dobbs played for Mike Vrabel and the Tennessee Titans in the final two games of the 2022 season, where he started in place of an injured Ryan Tannehill. Throughout his career, Dobbs has been a reliable backup quarterback with playing experience, as he’s started in 15 games in his eight-year career.
Signing Dobbs was a good move by the Patriots, as they needed a backup quarterback with starting experience to help mentor Drake Maye. When talking to the media, Dobbs revealed that former Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett is his mentor, something both he and Maye share in common.
Jacoby Brissett is Joshua Dobb’s Mentor
In 2022, Dobbs signed with the Cleveland Browns, where he became teammates with Jacoby Brissett. Although they were only teammates for seven months, the two became close enough that Dobbs considers him a mentor.

Towards the end of last season, when Maye had taken over the starting job from Brissett, Maye was asked about his relationship with Brissett:
"He’s been one of the best teammates I’ve ever had and a mentor to me."Drake Maye
Having Brissett as a mentor to both Maye and Dobbs is great to hear for Patriots fans, as Brissett was nothing but a team player during his two stints with the Patriots. Although Patriots fans desperately wanted to see Maye play over him when the team wasn’t performing well, you never heard a single negative comment from Brissett.
Brissett was an absolute professional during his last season with the Patriots, even with an atrocious offensive line that got him beat up game after game. He was a treasure for the Patriots in his tenure, having classic wins against the Texans and Jets, while showing Maye the ropes.
Just like Brissett, Dobbs is a class act who’s ready to help Maye succeed. With his starting experience, Dobbs should be a reliable starter, if need be, as he’s thrown for 3,281 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions in 23 games.
