The New York Knicks are in the conference finals for the second year in a row and will likely make their first NBA finals appearance in over two decades this year (let's face it: they're on a roll right now, and they will likely be the favorites against either the Detroit Pistons or Cleveland Cavaliers).
New York has had its problems this year (inconsistency on both sides of the ball, whatever has been going on with Mikal Bridges for a good chunk of the season), but it didn't matter. The Knicks have established themselves as a legitimate powerhouse in the East thanks to star Jalen Brunson and their high-powered offensive unit (and improved defense).
And after sending the Boston Celtics packing not even a year ago (and with their immediate outlook being a bit murky), they should absolutely be worried about what the Knicks can do moving forward.
The Knicks are a real threat to the Celtics
A lot of people clowned it at the time (not the moves themselves, but the fact that they clearly did it with Boston in mind), but acquiring Bridges and OG Anunoby has paid huge dividends for them.
They are two of the best wing defenders in the entire NBA, so to have both of them on the same team (along with Josh Hart) can be a cause for concern for the Celtics, given that their entire team is built around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
Additionally, New York has an intriguing dynamic with the Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns (who is one of the best shooting big men the NBA has ever seen), because, while there's a lot to like about Neemias Queta as Boston's center, he can't hold his own against the six-time All-Star. And Brunson is... well... Brunson.
There is a lot to like about what this Knicks team is doing. They are incredibly talented (especially at the top of their roster) and have only gotten better over the past few years. As it stands, they are likely going to be near or at the top of the East for a long time, even if they somehow don't advance to the finals this year.
And given how well they have matched up with the Celtics recently (and likely will moving forward until they make some bigger moves, such as getting a replacement at center), they are a team worth keeping an eye on from here on out.
