Latest Juan Soto Update is Disastrous for Red Sox

Boston Red Sox fans would love nothing to see Juan Soto make his way to Beantown. Unfortunately, the latest update is awful news for the franchise's pursuit.

The MLB offseason is in full swing as the majority of the baseball world has its eye on free-agent outfielder Juan Soto.

The four-time MLB All-Star is one of the biggest names to hit the open mark in recent years. Soto owns one of the most dangerous bats in the Majors and his consistency is like no other, which is why Red Sox fans have been hoping to see the 26-year-old phenom join the franchise this winter.

Unfortunately, it's beginning to appear as if Soto to the Red Sox is becoming more of a pipedream as time goes on.

MLB Offseason Rumors: Red Sox Not Favored to Sign Juan Soto

With the MLB Winter Meetings beginning on Monday, several of baseball's top writers are in Dallas, TX to discuss the Soto situation. The Red Sox's odds of landing the superstar's services were brought up several times and it seems that they have some work to do if they want to keep pace with the other suitors.

"To be honest I never really bought into (the Red Sox's) interest in being the last team standing in this," MLB.com editor Alyson Footer said. "Maybe I'm misreading things. Are they ready to pony up that kind of money?"

"If they’re really prepared to give Soto $600 million, why didn’t they just keep Mookie Betts?" MLB insider Mark Feinsand replied.

It's hard to argue with Feinsand's remark. Betts was already a four-time MLB All-Star and former American League MVP by the time the Red Sox traded him to the Dodgers in February 2020. Failing to pay a premium price to retain Betts only to shell out the cash to sign Soto could potentially upset a portion of the fanbase.

While Feinsand and some other writers agreed that the Red Sox are likely "serious" about signing Soto, they agree that the Yankees likely won't let that happen. The last thing the Bronx Bombers want is to let the perennial join their AL East rival after they just played in the World Series.

"Given everything the New York teams have to offer in terms of money, lifestyle, and commitment to winning, it's hard for me to envision Soto signing in Boston unless the Red Sox blow away the field," New York Mets reporter Anthony DiComo added.

At the end of the article, each writer agreed that either the Yankees or Mets are the most likely landing spots for Soto with the Red Sox never coming in at higher than third.

Wherever he goes, Soto will likely make an immediate impact on his next team. The five-time Silver Slugger is coming off a 2024 campaign that saw him rack up 41 home runs, 109 RBIs, 129 walks, and a .288/.419/.569 slash line while pacing the AL with 128 runs scored.

With all four reporters predicting that we'll likely see a signing before the Winter Meetings are over, it might not take Soto long to reveal his plans for 2025 and beyond.
