For a lot of Patriots fans, the 2024 NFL season is starting this Sunday. Drake Maye was finally named the starter and all eyes in Gillette Stadium will be on the prized rookie in his NFL debut as a starter.

Unfortunately for the No. 3 overall pick, however, he will likely be without one of his key offensive weapons. According to Patriots inside Mark Daniels, talented running back Rhamondre Stevenson missed his third straight practice this week, officially putting his status against the Houston Texans in jeopardy.

NFL News: Rhamondre Stevenson Likely Out in Week 6 vs. Texans

Stevenson took a hit to his calf in Week 5 against the Dolphins and received some medical attention. Even though Stevenson played it down in his post-game remarks, it is clearly a more serious injury than initially thought.

The 26-year-old was initially demoted for Week 5, losing his starting spot to Antonio Gibson. However, he still managed to have one of his best games of the season and carried a larger workload than Gibson, capping it off with a 33-yard touchdown run.

Stevenson may not be off to the start he had in mind, fumbling the ball in each of his first four starts. Yet, he has still been the most productive offensive player for the Patriots this season, putting up 356 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

The potential absence of Stevenson will certainly make things more difficult for Maye. Gibson will get the lion's share of carries in the backfield with Jamycal Hasty stepping up into a bigger role. On FanDuel Sportsbook, the Patriots are 6.5-point underdogs against the 4-1 Texans.
