The New England Patriots brought Mike Vrabel in to be a new voice in the locker room and on the sidelines as the franchise looks to return to the heights they enjoyed during the era led by Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.
While Vrabel has earned his reputation as a no-nonsense head coach, the longtime Patriots defender knows the value in rewarding hard work, and he did just that to start this week ahead of New England's mandatory minicamp.
Patriots Announce Shortened Schedule For Mandatory Minicamp
According to Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald, the Patriots will only have players take the field for two days rather than the originally scheduled three. Per Kyed, New England's roster will be at the team facility on Wednesday as well, but that day of work will not include any on-field work.

Vrabel's first season as head coach of the Patriots will be an important one as it will lay the groundwork for his tenure in New England moving forward. This will not be a quick fix for the Patriots, and Vrabel knows that as well as anyone.
Ensuring the atmosphere around the team during this portion of the offseason is a positive one should only help this group gel before the pads come out and things get real during training camp. That is when the team's efforts on the practice field will be the most important. This is the time of year when relationships between players and coaches are built, and the foundation for the offensive and defensive schemes is put in place.
All these things can be accomplished by putting in work in the classroom. It also helps prevent the opportunities for unwanted injuries to occur, as the team saw this past week with Jahlani Tavai suffering a calf injury and needing assistance to get off the field.
