When the Red Sox finished last season with an 81-81 record and missed the postseason for the third consecutive year, the lineup had a pressing need for another right-handed bat.

Although Boston finished top-10 in runs scored per game last season (4.64), there was a lack of balance throughout the lineup, as most of Boston's best bats were lefties (Duran, Devers, Abreu). They needed a righty to slot into the top half of the order, one who could hit for power and get on base.

Signing Alex Bregman to a three-year, $120 million dollar deal in mid-February left question marks about defensive positioning between him and Devers, but Boston knew they were getting a proven winner, a good defender, and a hitter who is perfect for Fenway Park.

Now just 10 games into the season, Bregman is proving his worth and then some for Boston. He is already earning accolades in a Red Sox uniform and is becoming a fan favorite not even two months after signing with the team.

Alex Bregman Named AL Player of the Week

The honor is well deserved for Bregman, who is coming off a 4 hit, 6 RBI performance on Sunday Night Baseball. The third baseman's night also included a three-run home run and two doubles as the Red Sox routed the Cardinals 18-7.

Like the Red Sox as a whole, Bregman had a tough month of March. He went just 5-for-22 (.227) at the plate, striking out five times and failing to record any RBIs. He slashed .227/.261/.227 as the Red Sox started the season 1-4.

As Boston has won five straight, Bregman has been a huge part of the success. During the month of April, Bregman has found his groove, slashing an incredible .455/.500/.955 with two home runs and 10 RBIs through five games.

While Red Sox fans knew Bregman would perform well at Fenway, he is exceeding expectations. Not to mention, Bregman ranks among the best hitters ever at Fenway statistically. He holds the highest OPS of any hitter at Fenway Park with a minimum of 75 plate appearances.

Bregman was able to showcase his skills on national television on Sunday night, putting the baseball world on notice about what he is capable of in his new home ballpark.

His sweet right-handed swing and the Green Monster are a match made in heaven and is just another reason the Red Sox gave him $40 million dollars a year.

Coming off a four-hit night, Bregman will look to continue his strong start at home against the Toronto Blue Jays. "Breggy" will hit third in the lineup on Monday night, with first pitch set for 6:45 pm.
