Round 7 (Pick 217): Shilo Sanders, S, Colorado

With starting safeties Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers both having injury histories and approaching their 30th birthdays, Eliot Wolf should look to spend a draft pick on a safety. With this in mind, I have the Patriots selecting intriguing prospect Shilo Sanders with their first seventh-round pick. The son of NFL Hall Of Famer, Deion Sanders, Shilo offers a high upside.

Lennox Tate from NFL Draft Buzz thinks that being raised by NFL royalty has added high football IQ to Sanders’ evident athletic talent.  He has proven to be an instinctive player in deep coverage credited with forcing turnovers.

"With his track record of resilience and playmaking ability, don't be surprised if Sanders emerges as one of the top 5 safeties taken in the draft. Teams willing to be patient with his development could find themselves with a defensive gem capable of changing the complexion of games with his ball-hawking skills and football acumen.

Round 7 (Pick 220): CJ West, DT, Indiana

With Coach Vrabel’s emphasis on building his team through the trenches, I have the Patriots selecting defensive tackle CJ West to help shore up the middle of the defensive line.

NFL Draft Buzz wrote that West should have an impact at the next level, highlighting his ability to get “skinny through gaps and disrupt blocking schemes” and his speed and power off the snap of the football.

Adding West to a defensive line that already includes Keion White, Davon Godchaux, and Christian Barmore, will bring much-needed depth to the Patriots.

Round 7 (Pick 241): Will Sheppard, WR, Colorado

With the Patriots’ last draft selection, I have the team adding to its wide receiver room with the selection of Will Sheppard.

Lennox Tate of NFL Draft Buzz highlights how Sheppard’s ability to play the outside receiver or in the slot would give Josh McDaniels options in putting together his offensive scheme. Playing at the University of Colorado, Sheppard is used to playing against tough SEC cornerbacks which means he will be well prepared for the NFL.
