The New England Patriots began their 2025 offseason with the surprising firing of head coach Jerod Mayo. In the aftermath of Mayo's firing, many expected the Patriots to make former Tennessee Titans head coach and Patriot linebacker Mike Vrabel their next head coach. This came to fruition on Sunday morning when the Patriots came to terms with Vrabel on a contract.

With Vrabel now firmly locked in as the next head coach, attention now shifts to talent acquisition. The Patriots must add significant talent to their roster to become competitive again. Luckily, the Patriots have over $100 million in cap space to add talent to fit Vrabel's vision this offseason.

In a recent Pro Football Focus article, Bradley Locker discussed one player each team should sign this offseason. Lockers suggested that the Patriots sign wide receiver Tee Higgins. Higgins would certainly fit Vrabel's style and vision.

Why Tee Higgins Could Be a Patriot in 2025

New England would have been a highly suggested landing spot for Higgins even if Mayo hadn't been fired, given his dominant 2024 season next to Ja'Marr Chase. Still, Vrabel's hiring increases the chances Higgins lands with the Patriots.

During his tenure with the Titans, Vrabel drafted a big-bodied physical receiver by the name of A.J. Brown. Brown's presence and physicality immediately embodied Vrabel's mentality as a coach.

As a result, Brown quickly became the Titans leading target. In three seasons with the team, Brown recorded 185 receptions on 295 targets for 2,995 yards and 24 touchdowns. Although Brown's time in Tennessee ended due to contract disputes, Vrabel definitely understood how to use a target of his talent.

Given that Higgins and Brown share many of the same traits, the likelihood that he will end up in New England seems high. In five seasons with the Bengals, Higgins has 80 receptions on 124 targets for 1,116 yards and eight touchdowns.

Moreover, Higgins has four seasons with over 900 receiving yards and two with over 1,000. Higgins accomplished this by using his big body to go up and make spectacular catches.

The fact that Higgins was able to stand out behind Chase just goes to show the potential that Higgins has as the leading receiver. Thus, the Patriots and Vrabel should do anything they can to get him in New England.
