Patriots Already Cut Ties With 9 Players This Offseason
The New England Patriots are entering the 2025 offseason, seeking to make some changes to the roster and the organization's foundation. Mike Vrabel is now the 16th head coach in team history and will take the next couple of months to rebuild this group.
There is going to be a ton of overturning on this roster, and the moves have already begun.Back on Jan. 6, the Patriots signed seven players to future/reserve contracts. That list included DT Marcus Harris, CB D.J. James, WR John Jiles, T Caleb Jones, LB Andrew Parker Jr., S Mark Perry, and K Parker Romo.
While they decided to bring these guys back, they also decided to release nine players. TE Jack Westover, DE Jotham Russell, WR Alex Erickson, WR Braylon Sanders, DE Truman Jones, TE Mitchell Wilcox, CB Miles Battle, RB Kevin Harris, and ILB Monty Rice were released.
It isn't a shocker to see the influx of moves along the roster. The Pats fired Jerod Mayo on Jan. 5, and they knew there would be a new coach in the building. They officially named Vrabel the head coach on Jan. 13.
He will have a big input on how the roster is constructed, but he'll be working with Eliot Wolf, who was retained by ownership. Wolf is the Executive vice president of player personnel, so he played a big role in keeping these players around.
With these seven players signed to future/reserve deals, they'll have a chance to compete for a roster spot during minicamp and training camp.
These guys will certainly have an uphill climb with a new coaching staff in place but New England wasted no time making a couple of roster moves.
