Last week’s start of training camp made New England Patriots fans ecstatic to see this year’s team finally take the field, and rightfully so. After two embarrassing seasons that saw the Patriots win a combined eight games, new head coach Mike Vrabel and numerous big-name player additions have filled with the air excitement for the first time in years.

This period is supposed to be used for the players to build chemistry and learn the scheme; however, we, as fans and media, use it to determine how good the team is. While we want them to perform well in camp, it’s just a practice period, and we shouldn’t take it too seriously.

But with this new addition’s breakout performance in camp play, we can no longer contain our excitement for what he’ll potentially bring once the regular season starts.

K’Lavon Chaisson is Breaking Out at Patriots Camp

No one has had a more impressive camp than K’Lavon Chaisson, especially after Wednesday's performance. Chaisson, lining up against Will Campbell, had his best day of camp, posting two sacks and a pressure in four plays.

While it's unfortunate that it was against Campbell, you have to be impressed with Chaisson’s play. His pass-rushing ability is why the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted him 20th overall in the 2020 draft. Unfortunately, it didn’t initially translate to the NFL, combining for five sacks in four seasons.

Once the Jaguars moved on from Chaisson, he finally had a career year with the Las Vegas Raiders. In his lone campaign, Chaisson posted a personal-high five sacks, seven tackles for loss, and one interception in 15 games. Chaisson’s performance earned him a 63 overall grade per PFF and a 74.7 pass rush grade, which ranked 28th out of 211 edge rushers.

After finishing last season last in sacks (28), the Patriots signed Chaisson to a one-year, $5 million deal to bolster their pass-rush. His signing wasn’t considered to be anything more than a depth piece, but with his play in camp, he’s proving that he can be a real impact player on defense.

Chaisson, 26, still has time to prove that he was worthy of being selected in the first round; he just needs to find the right fit. With the Patriots, Chaisson has an opportunity to be a key contributing player and earn a payday in free agency.

Chaisson’s success in camp could foreshadow what's to come this season, as it’s been noted that he has been putting in the extra work. Patriots’ fans should be thrilled to see Chaisson and a much-improved defense take the field in 2025.
