Although there is still time to address some of their needs through free agency, the New England Patriots will head into the NFL Draft with nine picks. The Patriots have lost a number of key veterans due to the new regime taking place and they must use the draft to fill these losses.

In recent years, the Patriots have been the laughingstock of the league because they’ve been unable to hit on draft picks. Two of their most notable misses were drafting N’Keal Harry ahead of Deebo Samuel and D.K. Metcalf along with trading back with the Kansas City Chiefs to draft Cole Strange while the Chiefs drafted Trent McDuffie and George Karlaftis.

With Mike Vrabel taking over the reins as head coach along with having a say in the roster construction, let’s hope that the Patriots can hit on draft picks this year. The NFL Draft is just two weeks away, allowing us to look at what picks the New England Patriots have.

What Happened to the Patriots’ Original Draft Picks?

The Patriots have all but one of their original 2025 draft picks, trading away their sixth-round pick to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for J.C. Jackson and their 2025 seventh-round pick.

How Did the Patriots Acquire Their Additional Picks?

The Patriots have acquired three additional picks, all through trade. They acquired the No. 77 overall pick from the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for Matthew Judon, the No. 171 pick from the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for Joe Milton III and the Titans’ original No. 239th pick, and the No. 238 pick from the Chargers, where they also acquired J.C. Jackson in exchange for the No. 181 pick.

Patriots Draft Needs

Although the Patriots were aggressive and made numerous acquisitions through free agency, they still have several glaring holes that need to be addressed. Left tackle and wide receiver are at the top of the list, followed by a kicker and depth at defensive line and running back.

The Patriots failed yet again to find a starting caliber left tackle as they missed out on two of the top free-agent tackles, Ronnie Stanley and Jaylon Moore. They have a chance to redeem themselves with the No. 4th pick and draft LSU’s Will Campbell, who Mike Vrabel still views as a tackle.

Getting a No. 1 wide receiver is still a need for the Patriots, even after the signings of Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins. They failed to land Chris Godwin in free agency, who would’ve become the Patriots' top target heading into this season. Some notable receivers who could be the perfect fit for the Patriots offense in round two are Iowa State’s Jayden Higgins and TCU’s Jack Bech.

Luckily for the Patriots, this year’s draft class is noted for having depth at wide receiver and running back, allowing them to address these needs with their nine picks.
