The New England Patriots have a big offseason in front of them. After naming Mike Vrabel the head coach, the focus is all about adding some serious playmakers to the team.
The legal tampering period begins on March 10 at noon EST, when teams get a chance to negotiate with free agents. The Patriots are expected to be aggressive, as they have the most cap space in the NFL with $125 million.
The Patriots need a No. 1 WR, and there are multiple star receivers available. Despite having this boatload of money, the Patriots have an uphill climb to land receiver D.K. Metcalf, and a clip that emerged online paints a gloomy picture on the idea of Metcalf landing with the Pats.
During an appearance on the Casuals The Podcast in January, host Katie Nolan pitched Massachusetts as a great place to live.
Metcalf didn't seem thrilled and said, "No, it is not a desirable place, in my opinion.”
That comment, in combination with the draft compensation that New England would have to give up to land Metcalf, makes this difficult for the Pats to pull off.
Unfortunate reality:

According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Seahawks are seeking a first and third-round pick in return for Metcalf. In addition, he's seeking a new contract worth $30 million annually.
The 27-year-old also made it clear that he wants to play for a playoff contender, which makes the Pats an even harder destination.
The Patriots have the funds and the assets to acquire Metcalf, but it seems like the Pats aren't at the top of his list. Vrabel and company would have to be convincing in their pursuit of him. From that clip and his preference of location, the Pats wouldn't be able to land Metcalf with ease.
New England badly needs a WR1, but the odds are it won't be Metcalf, unless something dramatically shifts in the next couple of days.
