Patriots' latest mock draft pick could be the perfect reclamation project

Bleacher Report's latest mock draft has the Patriots taking Ryan Coleman-Williams with the 24th pick in 2027. Coleman-Williams hasn't produced much since his freshman year, but his mistakes are fixable, and he could be a real star under Mike Vrabel and A.J. Brown's tutelage.

Bleacher Report dropped its latest mock draft, and they have the New England Patriots selecting Alabama wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams with the 24th pick.

This would be a very intriguing pick for the Patriots, and it could be a match made in heaven. Coleman-Williams was one of the best receivers in the nation as a true freshman, but he has had some struggles since his breakout year. He has struggled with drops and seemed to fall off a cliff in his production.

However, I believe that is why he is the perfect fit for New England, which could get him in the back half of the first round. It seems to me that most of Coleman-Williams’ struggles are mental mistakes, and Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel is the ideal leader to get the Alabama star back on track.

Coleman-Williams is an elite weapon, just needs more development

If anybody wants to see the potential of Coleman-Williams, they should go watch his tape during his freshman year. It is absolutely diabolical that a 17-year-old true freshman was playing at that high a level in the SEC. His combination of speed, explosiveness, and route-running skills is truly special: all traits needed to succeed at the NFL level, and with the right coaching and environment, Coleman-Williams could turn into one of the more dangerous weapons in the league. Under the (hypothetical) leadership of Vrabel, we could see RCW playing as he did as a freshman at Alabama.

The Patriots also have A.J. Brown under contract, which would be great for multiple reasons. The first being that Brown is a true number one who demands attention and coverage from opposing defenses, which allows for the rest of the field to open up for other playmakers and would give Coleman-Williams incredibly favorable matchups. The second reason is that Brown is a seasoned veteran. He has been in the league for a long time and knows what it takes to succeed in the pros. He could take RCW under his wing and mentor him, showing the Alabama receiver how to be a professional.

With that being said, there are quite a few reasons why the Alabama star would be a great fit in New England, and quite a few reasons why Coleman-Williams could use the stability and leadership of the Patriots.

How could Ryan Coleman-Williams fit into this Patriots offense?

The Patriots have a great group of receivers at the moment, but they have had some serious issues with injuries. After placing Romeo Doubs on injured reserve this past week, and with most of their weapons over the age of 25, they obviously need to invest in another young weapon.

Coleman-Williams would be the perfect fit. He is only 19 years old and has already shown he has the tools to make it at the highest level. He would be able to grow and develop alongside Drake Maye, while being on a cost-controlled rookie contract. If the Patriots receivers next year consist of Brown, Doubs, Coleman-Williams, and DeMario Douglas, they are going to be one of the most high-powered offenses in the league.

In the Patriots' system, and with the leadership New England has in place, I predict RCW would turn into one of the bright young stars of the NFL.
