Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick could be on the verge of finding his next coaching job. The 72-year-old Super Bowl-winning head coach shockingly didn’t get hired in the offseason after the Patriots parted ways with him in January.

Belichick received one head coaching interview from the Atlanta Falcons, who hired former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris. After not getting much interest in an NFL HC gig, Belichick decided to take his talents to TV for this NFL season.

However, Belichick’s name has resurfaced in head coaching conversations, but not for the NFL.

Last week, InsideCarolina.com reported that the former Pats head coach interviewed for the University of North Carolina’s head coach vacancy.

According to Andrew Carter of the Charlotte Observer, Belichick is genuinely interested in the job. However, Carter said it is extremely unlikely to happen because of his age and lack of college experience.

While his age might be of concern, it appears that isn’t stopping the rumors from swirling around Belichick and UNC.

On Monday, ESPN’s Pete Thamel and Chris Low reported that talks between the former Pats coach and UNC “remain ongoing.”

"Sources told ESPN that talks between UNC and Belichick, 73, have continued, with some type of resolution either way expected this week. Belichick is expected to make multiple public appearances this week, which could add some clarity to the level of his interest."

If Belichick heads to the college game it would be shocking to a lot of people, especially given the number of NFL head coaching vacancies that could open up in the offseason. The Chicago Bears, New York Jets, and New Orleans Saints all fired their head coaches and could look for a new answer in the offseason.

However, the former Pats head coach might understand that those opportunities could go to Detroit Lions coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, or former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who is on the Cleveland Browns’ coaching staff. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if Belichick and UNC can come to a resolution by the end of this week.
