The New England Patriots weren't great in the red zone last season. They ranked 24th in the NFL in red zone efficiency and managed to get even worse during the playoffs. It was clear they needed to add some more playmakers and get themselves back on track in the red zone.
With the additions of A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs, Alijah Vera-Tucker, and Eli Raridon, we could see them take a huge leap forward in 2026. With that being said, let's dive into all things red zone and how the Patriots could skyrocket their performance inside the 20-yard line.
A.J. Brown is the obvious key to going nuclear in the red zone
Drake Maye clearly needed a true coverage dictating weapon last season, and he finally has just that. With the addition of Brown in the red zone, Maye will have a big, strong, athletic target he can toss it up to when need be. Brown is a master at the catch point, and with his ability to climb the ladder and come down with a majority of jump balls, be ready to see Maye taking quite a few shots, throwing it to his new receiver in the red zone.
Brown has always been able to bully opposing corners, and there is no reason to think he won't continue to do so in Foxborough. The addition of the former Philadelphia Eagles star could turn this offense into one of the best in the red zone, a massive improvement from last year's struggles.
Eli Raridon could have a huge red zone impact as a rookie
The Patriots selected Raridon in the third round from Notre Dame, and his size and jump ball skills could have him making an impact immediately. New England could bring out a jumbo package in the red zone consisting of Brown, Mack Hollins, and Raridon, a nightmare for a team with smaller defensive backs. The Notre Dame product has a lot of potential, and if he can put on even more mass in an NFL strength program, he could turn into one of the best weapons on the roster, especially in the red zone.
The run game should be much improved
The Patriots' run game should take a big step forward for multiple reasons.
Obviously, New England prioritized beefing up its offensive line with Alijah Vera-Tucker in free agency and Caleb Lomu in the Draft. The new and improved line should be very good, especially with the athleticism and tenacity of Vera-Tucker alongside the nastiness of left tackle Will Campbell, who can be an absolute mauler on run plays.
The new receivers should also have a great impact on the run game. Teams will have to respect the abilities of Brown and Doubs, so they won't be able to stack the box as much as they did last year. This will give favorable matchups for the linemen getting to their blocking assignments and will open up holes and seams for the running backs to hit at full speed.
Overall, with the new weapons, new additions on the line, and obviously the wizard that is Maye, the Patriots should be in prime position to turn into one of the top red zone teams in football.
