A familiar face could wind up back at One Patriot Place, as former New England wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has requested a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders. Meyers began his six-year NFL career with the Patriots in 2019 when he signed with the team as an undrafted free agent. After four seasons with the Pats, Meyers signed with the Las Vegas Raiders after the 2022 season. During his two seasons with the Raiders, Meyers has emerged as a dependable option for his quarterbacks, averaging 79 catches, 917 yards, and 6 touchdowns.

Patriots Gifted Excellent Opportunity to Trade for WR Jakobi Meyers

Since Meyers’ departure, New England’s wide receivers have struggled. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), during the 2023 season, the team’s receivers had the 5th-worst passing routes grade (66.7), and last season, had the 3rd-worst passing routes grade (66.8). By comparison, Meyers earned grades of 71.8 and 78.5 during those seasons.

Adding a player of Meyers’ caliber would help accelerate second-year quarterback Drake Maye’s development and strengthen New England’s receiving corps.

Patriots Executive of Player Personnel, Eliot Wolf, has already worked to improve the group this offseason. In the draft, Wolf selected former Washington State star Kyle Williams with the team’s 3rd-round pick. The former Cougar last season had 60 catches for 1,024 yards and 12 touchdowns to go along with a passing routes grade of 79.5.

In addition, Wolf brought in four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs and 7-year veteran Mack Hollins via free agency, two proven veterans, to help lead the team’s receiver room.

While the additions have bolstered the team’s receiver room, only Diggs has experience as a number-one receiver, and he is coming back from last season’s torn ACL injury. Bringing in Meyers, who has previously thrived as the number one receiver with the Patriots in offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels’ offense, would complete a busy offseason and provide another proven weapon for the team’s offense heading into the season.
