Things have been looking strong for the New England Patriots during the 2025 NFL season. After a tough 1-2 start, the Patriots have won four consecutive games, boosting their record to 5-2. Notably, the last three games have all been played on the road.

One big reason for this season's success has been head coach Mike Vrabel's change in culture. Along with Vrabel, Drake Maye has taken a leap in his sophomore season with the help of offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and veteran receiver Stefon Diggs. Nearing the middle of the season, it's going to be interesting to see what the team does at the trade deadline. However, one move the team should make is to reunite McDaniels with a former receiver.

Patriots Should Pursue a Jakobi Meyers Trade

Unlike the Patriots, this season hasn't gone particularly well for Jakobi Meyers thus far. Following back-to-back strong seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, Meyers hasn't seen the same success in his seventh season. Vegas currently sits at 2-5 on the season and last in the AFC West. Given the lack of team success and his own impending free agency, Meyers would like to be moved.

Meyers entered the 2019 NFL draft after a phenomenal season that saw him break Torry Holt's single-season receptions record at NC State. While Meyers would go undrafted, he'd sign with the Patriots and would remain a solid receiver for four seasons. When he entered free agency after the 2022 campaign, Meyers signed with the Raiders, reuniting with then-head coach Josh McDaniels.

In his first season with Vegas, Meyers had a career year in yards (807) and touchdowns (8). He'd follow this in year two by once again breaking his career high in yards with 1,027. Even though he hasn't had the best 2025 so far, the Patriots should look to bring him home.

The Patriots' receiving room could use some extra firepower, and it would be smart to bring Meyers back. Given his history of playing in McDaniels' offense, he'd know the playbook already, so you wouldn't have to spend much time catching him up to speed. While Kayshon Boutte has continued to make impressive plays, outside of him and Diggs, Maye doesn't have the strongest set of weapons.

If New England wants to make a trade, it would need to be before the NFL trade deadline, which is Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 4:00 p.m. Going into Week 8, the Patriots will return home and host the 2-5 Cleveland Browns. Cleveland is coming off a dominant, 31-6 win against fellow AFC East team, the Miami Dolphins, so the Patriots cannot take them lightly. Every win from this point forward will be paramount for Vrabel and his roster.
