The New England Patriots have made a ton of changes this offseason with Mike Vrabel at the helm. After spending a bunch of money in free agency, the Pats have turned to the 2025 NFL Draft to add more playmakers to the roster.
In the first round, the Patriots took LSU OT Will Campbell with the fourth overall pick to give Drake Maye protection. In the second round, they continued to add to the offense as they drafted Ohio State RB TreVeyon Henderson with the 38th overall pick. While this is great news for the offense, it spells bad news for Antonio Gibson.

Patriots Selected TreVeyon Henderson in the Second Round
Gibson signed a three-year, $11.25 million deal in free agency and gave them a veteran tailback who can make an impact in both the run and pass game. In his first season with the Pats, Gibson had 538 rushing yards, 206 receiving yards, and one rushing touchdown.
Those are solid numbers for a running back part of a committee, but with the addition of Henderson now, this could be a bad sign for Gibson.
With Rhamondre Stevenson still on the roster and the new addition of Henderson, Gibson is someone who got pushed down the depth chart.
Henderson has great acceleration to fly through the hole and consistently bounce off tackles. He also has secure hands coming out of the backfield, making him a well-rounded running back. In 47 career games at Ohio State, he tallied 3,761 rushing yards and 42 touchdowns. As a receiver, he had 853 rushing yards and six receiving scores.
The Virginia native is everything you're looking for in a running back, and the Pats believed the same thing, which is why they made him a top 40 pick. This will certainly make the offense better but it doesn't look like good news for Gibson.
