Patriots Playmaker in Big Disagreement With Jerod Mayo Ahead of Week 7 Game
The New England Patriots are 1-5 and have lost five games in a row. Everyone knew it was going to be a rebuilding year and there would be some rough patches.
Last week was a bit different though, as Drake Maye got the starting nod. He showed some serious flashes of why he went No. 3 overall.
While one rookie played well in Week 6, that same sentiment couldn't be said about WR Ja'Lynn Polk. He played in 65% of the snaps but only recorded one catch for four yards. On Monday, head coach Jerod Mayo said that Polk needs to over this mental hump so he can eliminate his drops.
The Washington product then responded to MassLive.com on Wednesday.
Patriots News: Ja’Lynn Polk Still Has Confidence After Shaky Start
Polk was asked about Mayo's comments and believes he's still in the right place mentally and has all the confidence in the world.
"I’m not dealing with [any] mental problems at all. No mental problems. I believe I have the best hands in the league. So, I feel like my drops, that’s not an issue at all."
- Ja'Lynn Polk
According to PFF, Polk has two drops on his 22 targets this season. Drops haven't been a huge problem just yet but it still caught the attention of his coach. The 22-year-old has had a slow start to the season, logging 10 catches for 78 yards and one touchdown.
Mayo stated that the Patriots' best three receivers are DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, and Kendrick Bourne. Despite that, Polk's confidence wasn't wavered.
He said, "I’ve got more confidence in myself than anybody has in me. I just have the mindset of wanting to be the best. So, keep chasing greatness and being the best that I can be.”
