The New England Patriots are in Year 1 of their rebuild. Jerod Mayo and Elliot Wolf will have their hands full as they look to build this team for future success.

The Pats have some exciting young talent on their roster that makes the future of the team encouraging. Quarterback Drake Maye has shown plenty of promise in his rookie campaign. In nine games this season, Maye is completing 67% of his passes for 1,696 passing yards, 345 rushing yards, and 12 total touchdowns.

The point of emphasis this offseason is about building around this young signal caller. The Athletic's Dane Brugler released his mock draft and had the Pats repeating the same mistakes that Belichick did in the past.

Patriots News: New England Adds to Trenches in Mock Draft

Brugler has the Patriots taking OL Will Campbell out of LSU. Patriot fans will understand the logic behind this selection. New England's offensive line is terrible and they need help there. They are tied for third in the league in sacks allowed (43), so keeping Maye upright is a clear need.

While Campbell would be a smart choice, their lack of quality pass-catchers is glaring as well.

When Bill Belichick was the head coach, he did a terrible job surrounding his quarterbacks with good playmakers. That has trickled down to this regime, as they need to vastly improve the WR room.

No Pats WR has recorded at 500 yards this season. They have a massive void there and need to find a way to upgrade that position.

While the draft order has not been locked in yet, Tetairoa McMillan from the University of Arizona would be a great choice for Maye and the offense.

McMillan has a big frame and is a fluid-moving athlete. He's a force after the catch as well. In his collegiate career, McMillan has 213 receptions for 3,423 receiving yards, and 26 touchdowns.

He would immediately become the No. 1 WR there and elevate the Pats offense.
