With OTAs and minicamp firmly behind us, teams around the NFL are putting the final touches on their 90-man roster ahead of training camp. The New England Patriots will reconvene in July for training camp, rookies on the 19th and the veterans on the 22nd. Until then, we will likely see transactions on the margins to best set the team up ahead of the 2025 season.
The most recent transaction for the Patriots brought back a familiar face. On Monday, it was reported by multiple sources that former Patriots offensive lineman Yasir Durant was returning to New England on a one-year deal.

Patriots Bring Back Former OT Yasir Durant
Durant is coming off two seasons in the UFL with the DC Defenders, where he just won the championship and made the All-UFL team. The offensive lineman has previously spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, and the Denver Broncos, appearing in 19 games (two starts).
The 27-year-old's NFL career began after he signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri. He was projected to be a mid-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, his fall taking analysts by surprise. He still managed to make the Chiefs' final roster and spent his rookie season in KC. Before the 2021 season, he was traded to the Patriots for a seventh-round pick and spent the entire season in Foxborough, playing in seven games, splitting time between right guard and right tackle.
Now, Durant is returning to the NFL after two years away, but he is still facing an uphill battle in New England. The Patriots revamped their offensive line in the offseason, bringing in fourth-overall pick Will Campbell and signing Morgan Moses in free agency. Durant doesn't have a path to start, but he will have to beat out the likes of Sidy Sow and Caedan Wallace in training camp to have a chance to make the roster.
Considering how the offensive line was arguably the weakest link on the team last season, albeit significantly impacted by injuries, the Patriots playing it safe and adding more veteran depth makes plenty of sense. What role Durant will have in training camp and beyond remains to be seen.
