Patriots should seriously consider blockbuster Quenton Nelson trade

Patriots need O-Line help, and the Colts may have a fire sale. It seems obvious.

The New England Patriots have been decimated by injuries along the offensive line this season. They have now lost both of their starting guards: Alijah Vera-Tucker pulled his hamstring this past weekend, and Mike Onwenu is out for the year with a gruesome ankle injury he sustained earlier this season.

Regardless of these injuries, the Patriots have mostly continued to dominate and win games, winning three of their last four games. They look to be serious Super Bowl contenders, and they should attack the trade deadline very aggressively.

There is one name that continues to be tied to the Patriots: Indianapolis Colts left guard Quenton Nelson. Nelson has been arguably the best guard in the NFL during his career, and at 30 years old, he definitely has quite a bit left in the tank.

The Patriots desperately need reinforcements on the offensive line

After all the injuries the Patriots have suffered, Nelson would provide serious relief for a very thin offensive line. He would immediately slide in at left guard, and when Vera-Tucker returns, he could move over to right guard.

That is an absolute unit of an O-Line. The left side being anchored by two alphas in Campbell and Nelson would have Drake Maye untouched for the entire season. Campbell’s play style on the field is very similar to Nelson’s; they are both ready for war on each snap and have that fiery aggression between the lines. Campbell would also benefit from having a proven veteran at his side that he could count on to help him anchor Maye’s blind side.

It’s clear the Patriots would benefit from bringing in another offensive lineman, but bringing in one of the best in the business could have this unit moving at a level we haven’t seen in years, and it would be a lot of fun to watch Campbell and Nelson side by side.

Patriots should take advantage of Colts' potential fire sale

The Colts just recently fired their GM, and many media personalities believe they could have a fire sale before the trade deadline.

At 30 years old on an expensive contract, New England may be able to negotiate a fair trade price for Nelson, especially if Indianapolis is trying to get rid of players. Hopefully, New England will be on the phones looking for pieces that can put them over the top as Super Bowl contenders, and the six-time All-Pro guard would be the perfect fit.

The offensive line is arguably the most important part of a team, and what better way for the Patriots to protect their franchise quarterback than by getting the best guard in the league?
