Without a doubt, the New England Patriots were the most active team in free agency.  They had to make changes after finishing another season, 4-13. Lacking talent on both sides of the ball, the Patriots had to use their league-leading cap space to improve their team

Their aggressive approach resulted in signing some of the biggest names in this year's free agency class, landing Milton Williams, Carlton Davis III, and Stefon Diggs. Even though they made numerous upgrades, it still feels like the Patriots should’ve added more to the offense.

Luckily for the Patriots, they can still improve the offense by signing free-agent wide receiver Gabe Davis.

Patriots Should Sign Gabe Davis

After the NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars released Gabe Davis one year after signing him to a three-year deal. His lone season with the Jaguars ended in disappointment, posting 20 catches, 239 yards, and 2 touchdowns in ten games before suffering a season-ending torn meniscus in his left knee.

Before his tenure with the Jaguars, Davis played four years for the Buffalo Bills, earning the nickname “Big Game Gabe” for his four-touchdown performance in the 2021 Divisional Round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. In his last season with the Bills, Davis posted 45 catches, 746 yards, and seven touchdowns.

Davis, 26, would be a great addition to the Patriots, as they desperately need all the help they can get at wide receiver. The Patriots had one of the worst offenses in the league last year, ranking 30th in points (17) and last in passing yards (176.2).

By signing Davis, the Patriots would give Drake Maye a reliable outside receiver who can be a red zone threat. The Patriots were terrible in the red zone, ranking 30th in red zone drives ending in a touchdown (46.8%).

Davis is still young and can contribute to a team. Given that 2024 draft picks Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker were underwhelming, Davis would be an instant upgrade over the two.

Davis, a veteran with playoff experience, can be a big boost to the team, as the Patriots have missed the playoffs for three consecutive seasons. Although the receiving room is packed, with 13 receivers on the team before the start of OTAs, Davis should easily be one of the top six receivers on the team.
