The New England Patriots have signed all but one player from their 2025 Draft class, as second round pick TreVeyon Henderson is still in the negotiating process of his contract.

Although it seems odd, Henderson is part of a long list of second-round picks who haven’t signed their contracts yet. The total list includes 34 players who haven’t signed yet after being drafted, 30 of whom were selected in the second round.

The precedent was set this year when two second round picks received fully guaranteed contracts this year, making it the first in NFL history with Houston Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins and Cleveland Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger.

It’s worth noting that Higgins and Schwesinger are the only two second-round picks to sign a contract in the 2025 Draft class. Both Higgins and Schwesinger were selected just a few picks ahead of Henderson:

  • Carson Schwesinger, 33rd overall
  • Jayden Higgins, 34th overall
  • TreVeyon Henderson, 38th overall

Henderson is hoping to secure a guaranteed contract, which would be almost unheard of for a rookie running back. It was revealed that he was absent from the first part of the OTAs open to the media because of the ongoing contract situation.

The contract, however, hasn’t kept Henderson off the field for New England outside of that first OTA session. It will get resolved sooner than later, but it does raise the question of whether Patriots owner Robert Kraft will give in and give Henderson a fully guaranteed deal or not. Keep in mind that Kraft is the one who said that he wanted a “speed running back” in the draft.

Nevertheless, Henderson is not a potential hold-out candidate and should have a nice season with New England.

The Patriots will look to have a dynamic duo out of the backfield between Rhamondre Stevenson and Henderson this season. They’ll also have Antonio Gibson, while undrafted rookie free agent Lan Larison has made a strong case to make the roster as well.
