The New England Patriots decided to stand pat at the trade deadline and chose to bring the same roster into the second half of the season. Considering that this is a transition season that is more about player development, this was an understandable decision. The team isn't headed anywhere with a 2-7 record, so there was no need to give up draft capital to improve the roster in the short run.

The rest of the season for the Patriots will be about evaluating the roster and seeing what they have on their hands. However many games New England wins while doing so will just be a bonus.

Fortunately for Pats fans, they will get a good chance to get another one in the win column on Sunday against the Bears. The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain reported that the Bears will be missing their top three offensive tackles; Darnell Wright, Braxton Jones, and Kiran Amegadjie, in Week 10.

Jones started at left tackle all season, while Wright was the starting right tackle through the first half of the season. Now, they will be replaced by less competent backups, giving the Patriots' defense an opportunity to shine.

The Patriots have struggled at pass rush most of the year. Keion White and Deatrich Wise Jr. have been carrying the load there, but the rest of the team hasn't been particularly productive, as New England ranks 28th in sack rate. Especially considering the fact that Joshua Uche is no longer with the team, the Patriots have a lackluster edge rusher rotation.

This is a great chance for the Patriots defense to get back on track. They won't have too many opportunities to win games this season, and this is as good as it will be for the rest of the campaign.
